BRIEF SUMMARY

Module 4 of the diploma in Geotechnical Design of Tailings Dams, Waste Dumps, and Leaching Pads aims to review the fundamental concepts of geotechnical design of filtered tailings and co-disposal deposits. The concepts of filtration techniques to reduce moisture in tailings until reaching a solids content that allows their transportation using belts and/or trucks will be reviewed. Similarly, the characterization of these materials will be explored in depth, as their lower moisture content allows for compaction procedures that increase their physical stability. Additionally, cases of deformation analysis under static conditions using various constitutive models will be studied. Subsequently, the effects of earthquakes on these deposits will be analyzed, as well as quality control and assurance procedures during construction. Finally, practical case studies will be reviewed.
