BRIEF SUMMARY

Module 7 of the diploma in Geotechnical Design of Tailings Dams, Waste Dumps, and Leaching Pads aims to delve into the most important aspects of the geotechnical design of Leaching Pads (heap leach piles). Unlike tailings and waste dump deposits, these structures do not store waste but are crucial for the profitability of mining operations as they process minerals. Therefore, the economic viability of mining projects where they are constructed depends on their performance.

Leaching pads have numerous operational design criteria, unlike tailings and waste dump deposits. Currently, there is no updated guide summarizing the current state of practice as with tailings deposits (GISTM) and waste dump deposits ("Guidelines for Mine Waste Dump and Stockpile Design" book from 2017 by editors Mark Hawley and John Cunning).

BENEFITS

► Receive certification in the name of the International Geotechnical Center as a specialist in Tailings Dams, Waste Dumps, and Leach Pads Design.

► Get trained by an experienced speaker in the field.

► Receive slides and materials for each module.

► Be able to make necessary academic inquiries through the CGI Virtual Campus forums.

► Choose the start date and complete the diploma at your own pace and schedule within the access period. You can pause and review the videos as many times as needed to grasp the knowledge being imparted.

► Access a network of professionals from various countries worldwide. Our diploma program includes technicians, university students, engineers, master's, doctoral, and post-doctoral candidates, as well as individuals from various professional backgrounds.

► Access the database of participant inquiries and responses, as well as technical reports generated in each module and supporting theses.

OBJECTIVES

Understanding the concept of leaching and its application in geotechnical engineering applied to mining

► Evaluating the most appropriate use of leaching pads for mineral extraction, as well as the use of binders

► Using geotechnical research methods to characterize the mineral (ore)

► Characterizing the properties of geosynthetics that make up the lining system of the leaching pad (geotextiles and geomembranes) for a proper understanding of Technical Specifications and subsequent quality control and assurance in the field

► Geotechnically evaluating leaching pads considering aspects such as mineral (ore) characterization with laboratory tests, stability under static and pseudostatic conditions, flow considering partially saturated conditions, permanent deformations using simplified methods, seismic response

► Reviewing more advanced geotechnical concepts such as 3D slope stability analysis and nonlinear dynamic analysis in 3D
